The Guardians of Martock Church, Concert in All Saints' Church

Saturday 27th April 2019 at 7.30pm

Yeovil Concert Band

The Band was formed in 1999 with just eight members but has had around 36 members for many years, between them playing 15 different types of instrument, making it suitable for performing a wide range of music, with 16 brass and 19 woodwind instrumentalists plus a percussionist. Coming previously in 2012 and 2013, they last came to Martock in April 2017 and were then conducted by Band Sergeant Tom Griffin. He had also conducted the Yeovilton Military band here two months earlier.

Tom Griffin has now been posted elsewhere. The Concert Band’s Musical Director is now Jim Bennett who studied trumpet at the RCM and has played in 3 Symphony orchestras and as a soloist with another. He also leads the Sherborne Youth Band and Gillingham Silver Band and teaches music at Bedford School and several others in Somerset. He also plays jazz in his own group, with residencies at London venues and plays with three local jazz bands.

The Concert Band will play a wide range of music, including songs from stage shows and films, marches, folk music, classical suites, tributes to classical and popular composers, famous singers or musicians. Their selections on previous visits to Martock have been universally pleasing and expertly performed.
